Wedding Weather…

We photographers have many, many weather apps/links on our phones. Since we can’t control it, we need to be able to deal with it. Sometimes we can reschedule. Sometimes we can’t. Rescheduling a family session can be done. Rescheduling a wedding…not so much.

I arrived really early to a venue for a recent wedding. Why? It was an outdoor wedding and the apps were not giving me the news I wanted to see.

In fact, while I was driving out there were multiple heavy downpours, which the apps failed to mention. There was a break and I was able to get my gear and myself into the barn without getting rained on.

I was there early to figure out options. This required talking to the venue staff and the caterers. And they also were coming up with backup plans in case it kept raining.

The venue owner and I were constantly checking the apps – which said the rain would end at 2pm.

We really hoped the apps were right…

But we still came up with a plan. I would do the 1st look photos out under the covered patio and the family photos inside in the barn on the side that didn’t have people running back and forth getting everything ready.

2pm came and the rain had mostly stopped. As we were going through how to do the 1st look, the rain stopped! Kept the location, since it was private/away from guests and worked very well.

By the time family photos were to start, the sun started to peek out. By the ceremony time, we had glorious sunshine!

My couple was amazing. They understood that the weather was, well, uncontrollable, and they put their trust in the professionals they hired to make it work – no matter if it rained.
