Last month I had the honor of photographing Z& D’s wedding.
While anytime someone entrusts their memories with me, it is a high honor which I take very seriously.
This one however, was in addition, very personal. I have known the groom’s parents for decades and by extension, the groom!
The location was Vassar. A stunningly beautiful college campus in the Hudson Valley in NY. The reception was supposed to be at a different location, however, six weeks prior, their entire staff walked out. Which meant that the reception had to be moved…to Vassar. It worked out perfectly!
It did mean we had to adjust the photography schedule – we had more time in some places, and a bit less in others! No wedding day flows perfectly. It’s the nature of a live event. However, we had a great vendor team and it all worked out seamlessly.
We started in the Shakespeare Garden, but then moved to the chapel due to a few drops of rain. We quickly ran through the pros and cons of staying where we were or moving to the chapel. The bride and groom decided that in front of the chapel would be perfect. There was a colonnade in case the rain came.
It turned out to be better than perfect. The lighting through the colonnade was stunning!
The ceremony was perfect for the two of them and went off flawlessly.
The next part was a last minute addition. And it was just soo cool! A brass band led them down the path from the chapel to the reception at Alumnae House.
The historic character of the space made for a warm and personal reception. There were so very many great images – here are a favorite few –
